Impressionism

Monet

 Monet

Impressionism is my favorite art period. I think the style and general appearance of the paintings are the most desirable. Monet is my favorite artist in this time period because of his brush strokes and colors used in his work. the movement started in Paris and gradually became more popular as Monet, Manet, and many other artists started releasing new works in exhibitions.

Versailles

hall of mirrors, gardens with maze hedges

Versailles is one of the largest palaces in the world. It has huge, sprawling gardens. It originally began as a hunting lodge. I love this palace because of the land it's on, and the craftsmanship in the interior of the buildings.

Rembrandt

one of his most famous works

Rembrandt was the most famous dutch artist. He had a lot of influence in his home country and in europe, and his paintings were very realistic. I like the realism in his paintings, and the use of shadows.

Diego Velasquez

Young prince on his horse. Member of Royalty. the pope during that time period.

Velazquez specialized in portraits and self portraits, painting some pretty important figures. I like the use of vibrant color is some of his work. I chose the bottom painting because the man in the portrait  reminds me of Tyrion form Game of Thrones.

Peter Paul Rubens

Rubens was a great mannerist painter. He liked to paint on religious themes, as shown in this post. Two of the paintings involve Adam and Eve, and some sort of devil figure in the other painting. I like how realistic Rubens' paintings are.
